System of a Down Prioritizes Touring Amidst Album Uncertainty

1–2 minutes

System of a Down currently has no new album in development, with the band’s last full-length releases, ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize,’ dating back to 2005. While two singles were released in 2020, these were charity-focused efforts and not indicative of a new creative period for the band.

Disagreements among members Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian regarding the musical direction for new material make a new album unlikely in the near future. However, drummer John Dolmayan has expressed a desire for new music, suggesting the band dedicate six months in 2027 to recording after their planned touring commitments.

The band maintains an active touring schedule through 2027. This includes North American stadium dates in 2025, where they will share the stage with bands such as Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, and Deftones.

In 2026, System of a Down is slated for a European stadium tour alongside Queens of the Stone Age and Acid Bath. They are also scheduled to appear at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas and Texas during the same year.

Early 2027 will see the band performing stadium shows in Australia and New Zealand, with Faith No More joining them.

While the band’s favorite songs for live performance are not explicitly stated, fan polls indicate that ‘Suite-Pee,’ ‘Prison Song,’ and ‘B.Y.O.B.’ are among the most popular and cherished songs played in concert. Notable past performances include Astoria (2005), Big Day Out (2002), Lowlands (2001), Whiskey A Go Go (1997), and a 2015 show in Armenia.
