Fans of Springfield’s most famous family have a new reason to celebrate! Disney’s D23 Expo in August 2026 was the stage for a major announcement regarding the highly anticipated sequel to 2007’s “The Simpsons Movie.” Not only did the film receive a fresh new title – “The New Simpsons Movie” – but attendees also got an initial peek at what’s in store, alongside a confirmed release date.
Previously known by its working title, “The Simpsons Movie 2,” the sequel will now hit cinemas as “The New Simpsons Movie” on September 3, 2027. This official confirmation follows Disney’s initial announcement of the sequel back in September 2025, setting the stage for its grand reveal at D23.
Attendees at the D23 Expo were treated to early footage that promises classic Homer Simpson chaos. The clip reportedly depicted Homer engaged in a chaotic baseball game scenario, desperately chasing a fly ball. True to form, this pursuit led to widespread destruction across the beloved town of Springfield, giving audiences a taste of the animated mayhem to come.
Behind the scenes, the film is a collaborative effort between 20th Century Animation and Gracie Films, with distribution handled by 20th Century Studios. The D23 Expo’s marketing for the film was as playful as the show itself, featuring a pavilion adorned with graphics inspired by the iconic ‘Homer in the hedges’ meme. Even the floor wasn’t spared from the fun, as a carpet designed to resemble Homer’s signature pink donut guided attendees through the experience, signaling a vibrant return for the animated institution.
