Hulu has decided to cancel Mindy Kaling’s romantic comedy series, ‘Not Suitable for Work,’ after a single season. The news, announced in August 2026, comes just two months after the conclusion of the show’s initial nine-episode run.

The series, co-created and executive-produced by Kaling alongside showrunner Charlie Grandy, debuted on Hulu on June 2, 2026. Its first season concluded on June 23, 2026, with its final episode airing that day. Hulu has not publicly offered a specific explanation for its decision to cancel the series.

Originally titled ‘Murray Hill,’ ‘Not Suitable for Work’ focused on five work-obsessed twentysomethings navigating their professional and personal lives in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, scoring 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, the show garnered a strong audience response, earning an impressive 82% audience score on the platform.

Fans who tuned into the inaugural season were left with unresolved storylines, as the show concluded with a significant cliffhanger, impacting the romantic and personal arcs of its characters. However, there may still be a path forward for the series. Warner Bros. TV, which produced the show, reportedly plans to shop ‘Not Suitable for Work’ to other streaming services, with HBO Max and Netflix identified as potential contenders for a second season.

Following the news of the cancellation, Mindy Kaling took to Instagram on August 25, 2026, sharing a post to express her affection for the series, its cast, and its crew.
