Paul Thomas Anderson’s first concert film, Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, is set for its world premiere on October 1, 2026, as part of the 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF64). The film documents a solo concert performance by Geese frontman Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall on December 11, 2025.
The concert film was captured using a combination of 16mm and 35mm film formats. Filmmaker and actor Benny Safdie co-produced the project and was observed participating in the filming of the concert. Other producers involved include Sara Murphy, Erica Frauman, and Maggie Ambrose.
The premiere screening of Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall will be held at Alice Tully Hall and will be presented on 35mm, with Paul Thomas Anderson and Cameron Winter confirmed to be in attendance. The 64th New York Film Festival is slated to run from September 25 through October 12, 2026.
Following its festival debut, North American distribution rights for the concert film have been acquired by Janus Films and The Criterion Collection. An exclusive 35mm theatrical roadshow tour across North America is scheduled to begin on November 20. Fotokem in Los Angeles will be responsible for creating the 35mm prints for this roadshow, with direct oversight from the filmmakers.
The featured Carnegie Hall performance was a minimalist solo set by Winter, where he accompanied himself on a Steinway grand piano. He performed songs from his solo debut album, Heavy Metal, which was released in December 2024 and achieved critical acclaim, appearing on numerous year-end lists. Winter also performed other singles and three unreleased tracks during the concert. His band, Geese, released their album Getting Killed in 2025, which also received significant critical recognition.
In conjunction with the film’s release, a live album titled Live at Carnegie Hall, featuring the concert’s audio and produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, is slated for release on October 9. Paul Thomas Anderson has a notable history of directing music-focused projects, including music videos for artists such as Fiona Apple, Joanna Newsom, and Haim. He also directed the short film ‘Anima’ for Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. While Anderson has previously directed the music-related documentary ‘Junun’ (2015), Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall marks his first concert film.
