On August 12, 2026, Björk hosted the Echolalia festival in Iceland, a one-day event that coincided with a total solar eclipse. Held at Víðistaðatún, a sculpture park located in Hafnarfjörður near Reykjavík, the festival drew approximately 7,000 attendees.
The celestial event, the first total solar eclipse visible from Icelandic territory since 1954, its totality lasted approximately one minute and four seconds around 5:48 PM local time. Immediately following this moment, at 5:50 PM, Björk commenced an hour-long DJ set. For her performance, she wore an elaborate white balloon-like dress, designed by Robert Wun. The garment, part of his Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture collection titled ‘Childsplay’, featured translucent and opaque orbs, with its design conceptually linked to the event by resembling a cumulus cloud or a solar corona against the Icelandic sky.
Beyond Björk’s set, the Echolalia festival showcased a range of other artists. DJ sets and performances were delivered by musicians including Arca, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, 33EMYBW, Sideproject, and Ronja Jóhannsdóttir.
The Echolalia festival is part of Björk’s wider Echolalia project, which also encompasses an exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland, and is an extension of her ‘Manakvold’ series of informal dance evenings. Additionally, the event marked the 40th anniversary of the pioneering Icelandic label Smekkleysa, also known as Bad Taste.
